Brass struck medal with obverse showing full-length figure of Vernon facing three-quarters to left with sword in his right hand; his left hand on hip; cannon at his feet; ship at right; castle with three turrets at left labelled below: "HAVANA"; surrounding legend within line border: "ED : VERNON ESQ : VICE ADMIRAL OF THE BLUE." Reverse depicts group of sailing ships with legend within line border: "HE . TOOK . PORTO . BELLO . WITH . SIX . ONLY"; in exergue: "NOV . 22 . 1739 ."
