White metal struck medal with obverse showing nude bust of Washington, facing right, issuing from star-studded clouds, flanked by two American flags on either side, rays of light above; surrounding legend: "THE UNION MUST AND SHALL BE PRESERVED." Obverse shows clothed bust of Lincoln facing left with legend: "ABRAHAM LINCOLN/PREST. OF THE U.S./1864."
