Experience Cole Porter’s Beloved Piano, “High Society”
We've got a delightful guest at New-York Historical: The 1907 Steinway piano that once belonged to Cole Porter. The American songsmith extraordinaire composed many of his classic tunes on these very ivories, including “Anything Goes,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.” We're thrilled to be hosting the piano—nicknamed High Society—while its usual home, the legendary Waldorf Astoria New York, undergoes renovations.
In addition to the piano, another memorable artifact from the Waldorf Astoria collection is on display: John F. Kennedy’s famed rocking chair from the lavish Presidential suite.
Anbang Insurance Group, owner of the world-renowned Waldorf Astoria New York, is collaborating with the New-York Historical Society on this installation.
Exhibitions at New-York Historical are made possible by Dr. Agnes Hsu-Tang and Oscar Tang, the Saunders Trust for American History, the Seymour Neuman Endowed Fund, and New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
